Trump campaign

The Trump campaign controversially used a Beyoncé song at a rally that has been approved for use by Kamala Harris’ campaign.

Trump’s use of the song, titled “Freedom,” has prompted a legal threat from Beyoncé’s team. Trump’s campaign has removed the video using the song.

Ongoing tensions
This incident reflects ongoing tensions between artists and the Trump campaign, as many musicians, including the Foo Fighters and Celine Dion, have objected to the unauthorized use of their music by Trump.
A license
“A license is required for any use of music whether in a venue, convention, online via YouTube or social media platform,” said attorney Heidy Vaquerano of Fox Rothschild.
Trump event
Beyoncé’s song “Texas Hold ‘Em” was also played at a Trump event in July. Artists can still challenge the use of their music by political campaigns, even if a license has been secured.
Foo Fighters
Recently, the Foo Fighters expressed that they did not give permission for their song “My Hero” to be used by the Trump campaign. However, Trump’s spokesperson, Huyen “Steven” Cheung, responded, “We have a license to play the song.”
The estate of Isaac Hayes
The estate of Isaac Hayes has filed a copyright infringement suit against Trump for using his songs without permission.
Legal experts
Legal experts note that political campaigns must obtain music licenses and that artists can take action against unauthorized use implying endorsement.
