Some critics have raised concerns about Trump’s cognitive abilities, pointing to instances of verbal gaffes or confusion during speeches and interviews. Others say his often makes impulsive decisions and statements, particularly on social media, which they believe reflects a lack of self-control.

During one speech in particular, Trump struggled to communicate a coherent plan for addressing child care costs, but the media framed his response in a way that downplayed the lack of substance.

“I think when you talk about the kind of numbers that I’m talking about — that, because look, child care is child care, couldn’t — you know, there’s something — you have to have it in this country. You have to have it,” Trump rambled.

“But when you talk about those numbers, compared to the kind of numbers that I’m talking about by taxing foreign nations at levels that they’re not used to. But they’ll get used to it very quickly. And it’s not going to stop them from doing business with us,” Trump said.

The disparity in media treatment has raised questions regarding the seemingly different standards applied to various candidates.

Critics noted that Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have faced consistently harsher scrutiny than Trump and his verbal missteps.
