After 30 Years, Marlon Wayans Discusses Exit From ‘In Living Color’

Marlon Wayans recently shared his thoughts as to why his family decided to exit the sketch comedy series “In Living Color,” developed by his brother, Keenen Ivory Wayans. Despite lucrative offers from Fox, Marlon said they ultimately chose to leave because the show’s syndication was impacting Keenen financially.
In Living Color
“I remember when we left In Living Color because Fox was syndicating the show and it was hurting Keenen’s pockets,” Marlon said. “Keenen was like, ‘Nah, you ain’t gonna do this to me.’ My family said, ‘[Expletive] this money.’ And we all left In Living Color.”
Collectively protested
Wayans recalled one particular episode where the Wayans siblings had collectively protested to in order to show support for their brother, but were unsuccessful in reaching a solution.

“I’m still a brother after this. No, I’m gonna support my brother,” Marlon said.

All of the Wayans siblings had departed the show by May 1993, leading to a rapid decline in the quality of the final season.
We all left
“And we all left the show. And that’s why season five, it got weird. It got Biz Markie. God bless Chris Rock, [but] he came at the wrong time. As brilliant as he is, he couldn’t save it. Because the eyes of the show is gone,” Marlon said.
