Janet Jackson is facing significant backlash after expressing doubts about Kamala Harris’s racial background, as fact-checked by OKMagazine.com. Jackson falsely claimed Harris’ father, Donald J. Harris, is White. Harris is both Indian and Black. Her father came to the U.S. from Jamaica. “Well, you know what they supposedly said?” Jackson said. “She’s not Black – that’s what I heard, that she’s Indian.” “Her father’s white, that’s what I was told. I mean, I haven’t watched the news in a few days. I was told that they discovered her father was white,” Jackson added. Supporters of Harris were quick to note that the claim is false. Harris’ mother is Indian and her father is Black. Jackson expressed uncertainty about whether America is ready for a woman of color as president, stating that either outcome of the election would lead to chaos. “I don’t know,” Jackson said. “Honestly, I don’t want to answer that because I really truthfully don’t know. I think either way it goes is going to be mayhem.” Her comments sparked disappointment among fans on social media for perpetuating misinformation about Harris’s race. “You had the chance to stand with a Black woman loud and proud and you didn’t. This is hard for a lifelong fan,” one fan wrote. The topic has also been raised by Donald Trump, who has made similar claims about Harris’s racial identity. “I didn’t know she was Black until a number of years ago when she happened to turn Black and now she wants to be known as Black. So, I don’t know, is she Indian or is she Black?” Trump said.
