Far-right activist Laura Loomer recently wrote online that the White House would “smell like curry” if Vice President Kamala Harris were elected, as reported by OKMagazine.com. The remark was widely criticized online, and ultimately deleted at a later time. Vance, whose wife is Indian American, has been confronted over Loomer’s remarks. Vance’s wife Usha grew up in San Diego and attended Yale Law School. She later clerked for Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts.Donald Trump’s running mate JD Vance has since sought to separate himself from Loomer, as he himself has recently come under intense scrutiny for making controversial statements regarding Haitian migrants. Vance expressed disapproval of Loomer’s comments but emphasized that the focus should be on policy issues rather than controversial statements. “What Laura said about Kamala Harris is not what we should be focused on. We should be focused on the policy and on the issues,” Vance said. “I don’t like those comments,” Vance said, emphasizing that he doesn’t “look at the internet for every single thing to get offended by”. He defended his connection to Indian culture, stating, “I make a mean chicken curry.” “I don’t think that it’s insulting for anybody to talk about their dietary preferences or what they want to do in the White House,” Vance added. Vance also said that Loomer is “not affiliated with the Trump campaign,” echoing previous statements made by Trump.
