Vice President Kamala Harris is gaining key endorsements in recent months, including President Joe Biden as well as former Presidents Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, and Jimmy Carter. In the sports world, more than 50 former football players and coaches, featuring multiple Pro Football Hall of Famers and Super Bowl MVPs, have also expressed their support for Harris and Governor Tim Walz, as reported by OKMagazine.com. “Given [Vice President Harris’] integrity, values and demonstrated commitment to justice and equality of opportunity, we are confident that as President she will serve the best interests of all Americans,” they jointly stated. The group, representing 25 historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs), praised Harris for her integrity and commitment to justice. “I think it’s very important to not operate from the assumption that Black men are in anybody’s pocket,” Harris said. “I’m working to earn the vote, not assuming I’m going to have it because I am Black.” Notable signatories include Art Shell, the NFL’s first Black coach, and Richard Dent, a Super Bowl MVP. The announcement coincided with National Black Voter Day, aimed at increasing voter registration among Black Americans. Harris, a Howard University alumna, emphasized her dedication to earning votes, particularly among Black men. “As a proud graduate of Howard University, I know firsthand that our HBCUs are centers of academic excellence,” Harris said. “For generations, these anchors of our communities have played a pivotal role in building and contributing to America’s leadership at home and abroad,” she added.
