OKMagazine.com is reporting that Poland’s foreign minister, Radek Sikorski, claimed that Vladimir Putin could resolve the war in Ukraine in just “five minutes” by making a phone call, suggesting that Putin would be reluctant to instigate a confrontation with the West despite his aggressive rhetoric.

The war in Ukraine, which started in 2014 and escalated significantly in 2022, stems from historical ties and tensions between Ukraine and Russia, particularly regarding Ukraine’s desire for independence and closer ties with the West.

Support for separatists
The conflict intensified after Russia’s annexation of Crimea and support for separatists in Eastern Ukraine, leading to a full-scale invasion by Russia in February 2022, which has been met with widespread international condemnation and sanctions. The situation remains dynamic, with ongoing military and humanitarian implications.
Escalate to a war
As the UK and the US prepare to allow Ukraine to use British long-range missiles against Russian targets, Putin warned that this could escalate to a war between NATO countries and Russia.
The United States
Putin said that “would mean that Nato countries, the United States, and European countries, are at war with Russia”.
The victim
Sikorski said, “When you supply weapons you usually allow the vicrtim of aggression to use all force necessary to counter the act of aggression, and it’s very difficult to know what to make of President Putin’s words because he is such a liar. He’s lost credibility and therefore we don’t know whether he means it.”
Confront NATO
Sikorski expressed doubt regarding the credibility of Putin’s statements, emphasizing that Russia is struggling against Ukraine and likely would not dare to confront NATO.
Always risk
Sikorski continued, “There are always risks, but I don’t think Russia would dare to start a war with Nato because Russia is finding it impossible to defeat Ukraine, let alone NATO.”
Keir Starmer
Meanwhile, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer reiterated that the UK does not seek conflict with Russia, but stressed that Russia initiated the war by invading Ukraine and could end it immediately.
Self defense
Starmer said the UK does not “seek any conflict with Russia. Russia started this conflict. Russia illegally invaded Ukraine. Russia could end this conflict straight away. Ukraine has the right to self defense and we’ve obviously been absolutely fully supportive of Ukraine’s right to self-defense.”
